Happy Birthday to America!

Every year, I want the 4th of July to big deal.  Every year, we fail.  There is just something un-delightful about having no darkness in which to view fireworks.  However, as I'm trying to be a better mother I was determined to do something . . . . . . .

We decided to go to a little celebration thingy - live band, booths, etc.  We showed up, walked down an isle of booths, and noticed the majority of them were for political candidates.  Must be getting to that time of year, eh?  Then a light shpritzle began.  We found cover, and then realized what was really happening was that the heavens were opening up and releasing all their rage.  We high-tailed it on home.  Then for dinner, we decided on Chinese food.  Isn't that all terrible?  We did stop off an buy a bucket-o-weenie-fireworks.  To set off in broad daylight.

Of course, Amelia was beside herself to start the fireworks.  She mentioned it more than once.  So, we began (at 9 at night, just in case you're curious).

She began with the little party poppers (that shoot out streamers).
Kind of tricky . . . .
Daddy and his platform of goodies.

How cute is my little family?  So cute, that's your answer.
Smoke bombs.  Stupid.
The only real benefit they had was to keep the swarms of skeeters away for two minutes.  As the bombs went off, JR and I both had visuals of a toxic waste cloud.  I held my breath and walked away, envisioning the in-utero child growing a third nipple.
Amelia did not feel the horror, but thought it was super cool to run through!
Daddy waited until the end to light off the louder ones!
Some gave off unexpected surprises.
Sparklers are about the only thing she's really done in the past.  She was quite apprehensive of the flame, and then ended up burning herself.  How is that really possible?  Only she would manage to find a way.

So, there is our attempt at a 4th of July.  We've got to work on some aspects, clearly.  But at least we tried, which is better then years past!
