One World, Many Stories

Our local library system has a summer reading program that I am elated that Amelia can finally be apart of.  We tried going last year, but she was considered 'too young' to be apart of the reading program, and most of the activities that we went to didn't hold her interest, because (yup!) she was too young.  I may have mentioned this before . . . . .

I was telling my Mom my memories of summer and the library.  For me, summer was really a chance to be able to read more.  I have vivid memories of staying up until all hours of the wee morn to finish a book that I had just begun that morning.  Lemme make that clear - start book, read all day (I probably ate), go to bed and read until said book was finished, get a couple of hours sleep and then begin a new book.  Any body remember The Great Brain series by John D. Fitzgerald?  Awesome!

One of my greatest joys would be for Amelia to inherit the love to read.  She seems to have it, but only time will tell . . . .

Anywho's . . . , this years theme at our local is One World, Many Stories.  Amelia has been very faithful in logging her books read into her 'passport', which she then presents on library day to receive a passport and a little incentive gifty (stickers, pencils, etc).  The librarians are really such a joy to be around.  They are always so sweet, and encouraging to the children that come in.  Amelia really enjoys going, any time she can.

The day begins with a little prize drawing, and explanation of the days activities.  Mila is ALWAYS up front, and making fast friends with those closest to her.
This particular day was dog agility, and she kept jumping up and down with excitement at watching them!

This day was to make a hot ballon mural; they each got to choose their own landscape.
LANDscape, and Amelia chooses an underwater shot!  Do balloons float underwater?  No.
We had to document this, so that we could find her picture again.
Then the 'Sons of Norway' came to discuss their Scandinavian heritage.  The kids got to make fierce viking helmets, and then eat fresh krumkake.  Yeah!
Mila is was so concerned that I will be left out, so after she make her warmonger hat, she immediately made me one.  We looked quite scrappy, if I do say so!

We both really look forward to going to these weekly activities.  Yeah library!
