Most of the United States is probably feeling the effects of spring beginning to creep through their hardened winter veins, Alaska feels it in another way. While I did notice a couple of mini buds on the trees (ie, the nubs have gotten a little bigger), this time frame just means that we finally get to go out and enjoy the snow AND sun at the same time.
So, last Saturday J.R. rounded up the the entire family for a little sledding. Mila was just beside herself with pleasure.
While the sun never really made it out from behind the clouds, it was a nice day. It wasn't that cold, however since Gramma came along she kept insisting that Amelia's pink cheeks were from frostbite, and not sheer excitement, hence the reason the severe bundling.
Amelia had a blast, and got quite nervy. She'd get in the sled and speed down the (very long) hill, screaming in pleasure the whole time (Mom went too, but her screams were for a very different reason). Oddly, she was just as excited for the trek back up the hill. See Gramma (in her white fur lined knee high boots!) encouraging her from the top?
There was a jump at the bottom of the hill, and while nobody actually went off if it, Amelia did find it rather nice for her own needs.
After a wee bit, some ten year old boys came. They were in completely different league, so we moved over to a side hill that was steeper, but shorter. And not packed down, so a rather tricky to climb back up. Mila pulled out her mountain climbing skills that she has been working on (thanks to such heavy snows, there are a lot of very high snow berms around!) and powered her way to the top.
EVERYBODY but Grampa went down. Grampa seemed distracted by the photo opportunities.
Here Gramma is displaying her current pucker factor.
After we came home, Mila staunchly refused to come inside. She just marched her little self over to the shed, and grabbed her ski's.
She had a very satisfying nap, after we dragged her into the house (kicking and screaming).
It is delightful to have spring here!
