We now continue with weekly library time.
A (probably obvious) favorite was Dancing from Around the World. The library hosted Celtic dancers, and as a great bonus, they were all women's dancing!
Then came the Polynesian dancers. I think that the crowed became a little restless, but Mommy was in the back 'getting down'. I dunno what it is, but I love island dancing. I think I scared the other mothers a wee bit.
When I asked Mila what group was her favorite, she declared the 'yellow dancers'. Members of a local high school ballroom dance team came to shake their thing (sidenote: it appears that the iPhone does not capture action real well. Shocker!)
Then then the dancers taught everybody a little step or two. Mila kept grabbing those closest to her to dance with her, and they would have nothing to do with it. Mila just feels the need to dance! The next week I got an email from a buddy, asking if it was my pixie in the local newspaper? I had no idea! Turns out that she was in two (rather large) shots in the local section. 15 minutes, here she comes!
Oh, we had been waiting for this one. The local volunteer FD came for a little one on one with the kids. Which, could not have been better timing.
Semi off subject, our home had just been installed with many, many new smoke detectors (4 to be exact. Our house isn't even 1000 sqft. If one goes off, we'll here it!) One was put right above her door in her room, and she wants NOTHING to do with it. The first night she wouldn't even lay down until it was gone.
So, what lovely timing to have others show her how that detector could keep her safe (another current obsession, safety). They put the uniform piece by piece, explaining why each was put on.
Then the brave firefighter crawled through so that everybody could touch her and see that she wasn't scary, and that you should go towards her if you ever see her in your house! Notice, Amelia still did not care.
They did a couple of demo's, like stop-drop-and-roll, and crawling low if you hear the alarm. Mila wanted NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. to do with any of it. Finally, she went to go climb up into the truck, and wouldn't move. No smile, no sitting, no posing. I was unaware she had the capacity to be this quiet and demure.
So, Mommy offered to climb up in there with her, and my little pixie came to life. She grabbed everything, touched everything, and almost stole their flashlights. That's my girl!
We measured, and the tires were bigger than she was!
She's practicing for Miss March . . . . . . .
Then, for being such a good sport, she got an official fire hat. And showed the fire-people how to throw a little muscle into it!
Then, we came home to make a special birthday card for Daddy. This day was the last one (Thursday), and Friday the library was hosting a huge farewell shin-dig with a parade, train rides, and general mayhem. We were unable to attend (so sad) as Friday was both Daddy's special day, and the night before we were leaving on Lafleur Family Fun Time.
If you're curious about the end of the smoke detector saga, we waited about three weeks (with vacation time, too!) before Daddy snuck it back up. See how clever we are! At three o'clock that very next morning, the pitter-patter of angry feet could be heard. "Mom, that thing is back in my room! I don't like it."
At least she's consistent!
