On the road again . . . .

Hooray!  It is that great time of year that the Lafleur's head down to their favoritest spot in Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula!!!!

This year we had a bit of a damper, though, as JR was really sick right before we left.  It was 'just a cold', but it really kicked his ass.  He had been trying to beat it by sleeping, but just could not get on top of it.  One of the reasons we were going down (okay, it was just a convenient excuse) was that one of J.R.'s cousins was getting married.  Which means a lot of family is in town, and he did not get the 'down time' he needed.  The night before we were leaving, I pulled up to see him moving slowly, in a fever induced catatonic state, trying to load up the car.  It really produced a great sense of pity . . . . I convinced him to relax that night, and we would just leave when we leave.  Instead of leaving at 9 am, we left at 4 pm.  It just about killed him.

It was a lovely drive down, though.  The sun was out, and the traffic wasn't bad.  About dinner time, we saw an all too familiar camper parked with fantastic views of where Mt. McKinley should be (the range was out, but the mountains just wouldn't come out to play!).

So we stopped for a little dinner, and leg stretch.
Amelia helped herself to one of everything.
J.R. reiterated via loving glances that he was still not happy.  We all ignored him.
Then the ladies went for a little walk to try to burn a little more energy before we continued on.
Made use of the telescopes.  Amelia got some really nice cloud shots.
Gramma walked the dogs.  Notice how that's plural!  Ha ha.
Then we headed on.  We finally arrived at our tried and true camp ground at 11:00 that night.  To find it was permanently closed.  We have been camping there for years (remember it, Scott?) and it has some of the best views around.  It will now be converted into a power substation.  Somebody should be electrocuted for this atrocity.

So we scrounged up this camp spot, right off the main drag.  Which meant it was very, very busy with all the fire trucks and loud cars that did not seem to stop all night.

As we were packing up the car, J.R. lovingly stated that he really felt that it would be in my best interest if this was our last camping night.  In my condition, after all (I've hit the tail end of eight months!).  What really happened was that I was fine, but he was unable to sleep in the tent due to his illness, and spent the night in the car.  But alas, he was only thinking of me.
